Customers often ask how many cleaners will arrive and how quickly the job will finish. Those questions matter, but they do not tell the whole story. A better planning measure is cleaner-hours: the total amount of labour required to complete the agreed scope.
What is a cleaner-hour?
One cleaner working for one hour equals one cleaner-hour. Two cleaners working for four hours equals eight cleaner-hours. This makes it easier to compare different team sizes without assuming that adding people automatically reduces the total work involved.
What increases the time required?
- Multiple bathrooms or kitchens requiring detailed cleaning
- Inside oven, refrigerator, cabinets or drawers
- Heavy dust, grease, mineral buildup or neglected surfaces
- Several floors, stairs or a finished basement
- Garage, balcony, laundry room or other additional areas
- Detailed light fixtures, baseboards, doors and trim
- Furniture or belongings that must be worked around
Why photos and a scope checklist help
A short description such as “three-bedroom house” does not show the property's condition or every requested task. Photos, a walkthrough, or a detailed checklist can reveal labour requirements before the crew arrives and reduce the risk of an unrealistic time estimate.
Team size versus total labour
A larger team can often shorten the elapsed time at the property, which can be useful when keys must be returned or movers are scheduled. But team size should follow the scope. The goal is not to send the most people; it is to assign enough labour to complete the agreed work properly and safely.
If you have a firm handover deadline, tell the cleaning company before accepting the quote. The team can then determine whether the scope and available cleaner-hours realistically fit that window.
